1ST & GOAL PROGRAM

The Derrick Brooks Charities, Inc., has partnered with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Tampa Bay to offer the 1st & Goal Program. The mission of the program is to prepare our youth ages 14-18 to successfully enter post secondary education or an occupational training program. The program will focus on assisting youth to improve academics, pass the FCAT, increase SAT.ACT scores, enhance career skills, and graduate from high school. The program will recruit youth from the current Brooks' Bunch members, former Youth Opportunity members, and current Boys & Girls Club members.

Our comprehensive program is designed to empower youth to address the issues preventing them from pursuing a higher education after high school. We are encouraging youth to take an active role in their future by preparing today in the services offered by this program. Youth are responsible for committing to a certain amount of program participation hours per month to achieve their planned goals.

Our first two services provided set the stage of how youth will participate in this program and at what level. Each youth will complete a one-on-one interview assessment that identifies actions needed to achieve educational goals during and after high school. An Individual Educational Plan (IEP) is created to clearly identify the necessary short-term goals and any barriers in meeting the youth desired long-term educational goal. This plan recommends a track of programs and services that the youth will follow during his/her enrollment in the program.

All youth will complete a career assessment that measures career interest and abilities. This will assist the youth in determining what type of career is suitable for them and the level of skills needed to enter that particular field.

Case management services are provided to document and monitor the youth's progress throughout the entire program.
